The Plein Air Concept
Our firm name is derived from the French expression en plein air, which means “in the open air.” The expression refers to a style of painting that came into vogue at the end of the 19th century when painters began to abandon the confines of their studios, in favor of painting outdoors. Plein Air conveys our belief that successful investing is not simply a function of constrained and dogmatic financial analysis, but that it also requires a deeper understanding of the bigger picture to separate the signal from the noise in selecting a handful of the best companies amongst the thousands of opportunities in the capital markets. Intelligent investing is achieved through the synergy of art and science. Plein Air underscores our promise to be transparent in interactions among ourselves and with our clients.
